The Knightsbridge Estate Welcomes the Arrival of Burberry

The Knightsbridge Estate announces the opening of a new Burberry flagship store at No.1 Sloane Street. The iconic British luxury brand is the first tenant to open in the 340,000 sq ft redevelopment at the northern end of The Estate. The house has significant historical ties to the SW1 postcode: founder Thomas Burberry opened his first London store in the area, which, 130 years later, remains the home of the brand’s global headquarters.

Burberry is the first of seven brand new flagship stores on The Knightsbridge Estate and offers the ultimate elevated customer experience in one of the capital’s most vibrant locations. The store outlines the brand’s new global design concept designed in collaboration with renowned architect Vincenzo De Cotiis: brutalist elements are juxtaposed with luxurious materials, the core colours of the Burberry check – beige, black, white, and red – explored and developed throughout the store, and the iconic pattern reinterpreted in the gridded ceiling’s mirrored zones. “This is a story about a home, Burberry’s new home… where art, culture, and people move through intelligent and elegant modernity”, says De Cotiis.

Marco Gobbetti, Chief Executive Officer at Burberry, says, “Our new flagship store at No.1 Sloane Street is a manifestation of all that is Burberry: authentic, bold, elevated, with creativity at its core. An iconic destination in the heart of Knightsbridge, London, it is the first to carry our new global store concept, providing a uniquely British luxury setting for our local and international customers to explore our brand and products. We’re excited to welcome our customers to this new home for our brand that connects our past, present, and future.”

The Knightsbridge Estate, in partnership with leading international architects Fletcher Priest, provides a contemporary solution to the needs of today’s luxury market. Its seven new flagship stores occupy over 80,000 sq ft of expansive space behind meticulously restored Victorian façades. Each new store – three on Sloane Street and four on Brompton Road – offers a first-rate showcase for the finest global brands. The development, once complete, will also deliver 33 luxury rental apartments, 67,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art office space, and a rooftop restaurant.

Jonathan Shelton, Managing Director of Real Estate in Europe, at the Olayan Group which owns The Knightsbridge Estate, adds, “We are delighted that Burberry has chosen The Knightsbridge Estate as the location for its new flagship store. As an ambitious, forward-looking luxury brand, it dovetails perfectly with The Knightsbridge Estate and proves that, despite the challenges facing global retail, the strength of the market for best-in-class locations remains strong.”
